Today (16) Mr. Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the opposition, asked questions in Parliament regarding the participation of Professor Ranjith Bandara, who is the chairman of the COPE Committee, and his participation in the investigation of Sri Lanka Cricket as well as the non-disclosure of the relationship between the Sri Lanka Cricket Institute and him.

The leader of the opposition pointed out that the chairman of the COPE committee, MP Professor Ranjith Bandara, was a consultant for the Kandy Cricket Campus project of the Cricket Institute, and when the cricket authorities were brought to the COPE committee for questioning regarding the conflicts.

He said that information has been revealed that the Business Management School of Colombo had been appointed as a consultant for a project to establish a Brain Center in Sri Lanka Cricket.

The opposition leader said that in any democratic country there is an explanation regarding the conflicts between the members of the parliament, and that when there is a conflict like this, the positions of the parliamentary committees cannot be held, and in spite of this, he should explain how he can work as the chairman of the COPE committee.

Today, the Leader of the Opposition questioned that Professor Ranjith Bandara, who ruled that the Leader of the Opposition cannot participate in the State Finance Committee, should also explain how his son Kanshka Bandara was given a seat in the COPE Committee.

However, the opposition leader stated that his privileges have been violated.

In response to the statement made by the Leader of the Opposition, Professor Ranjith Bandara has issued a letter and has indicated that his son, Kanishka Bandara, who participated in the COPE committee, is his coordinating secretary.

He has also mentioned that the Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms of Parliament has given permission to Mr. Kanishka Bandara to stay in the premises where the COPE Committee meetings are held, according to his request.

Also, it is seen in the letter issued by Professor Ranjith Bandara that Mr. Kanishka Bandara has stayed in the same premises when the COPE committee meetings were held on other subjects.

Also, during the period when Thilanga Sumathipala was the chairman of the cricket board in 2018, a request was made to prepare a concept paper for starting a Cricket School, said the COPE chairman.

Professor Ranjith Bandara explains in his announcement that the work was stopped in the middle and no charge was made for it.

In this regard, Sri Lanka Cricket issued an announcement that although Professor Ranjith Bandara worked with Sri Lanka Cricket on behalf of the Colombo School of Business and Management to prepare the concept paper of the project for the construction of the Sri Lanka Cricket University, no payment has been made to him.
