Former President and Member of Parliament Mahinda Rajapaksa has declared that he will provide responses in court when the opportunity arises to address the recent Supreme Court ruling that holds him and two others responsible for the economic downturn and violation of people’s basic rights. Speaking to the media in Kandy after worshiping the Sacred Tooth Relic, Rajapaksa asserted that he does not accept claims of basic rights violations or the collapse of the country’s economy.

Rajapaksa emphasized that there is no reason to defeat the budget, highlighting its positive features. He called for unity within the party, stating that no member is expected to vote against the budget. Despite acknowledging minor flaws, Rajapaksa stressed the importance of party members working together on a collective journey.

The former president announced plans for a grand party conference, indicating that members from all districts will be involved in the event. He revealed that the organizational aspects of the conference would be overseen by Mr. Basil Rajapaksa, signaling a collaborative effort to strengthen party cohesion.
