The second reading of the Appropriation Bill for the year 2024 or the ‘Budget Speech’ is scheduled to be presented to the Parliament today (13) at around 12.00 pm by President Ranil Wickramasinghe as the Minister of Finance.
This year’s budget, which President Ranil Wickremesinghe will present to Parliament as the Minister of Finance, is the 78th budget in the country.
This is the third budget presented by President Ranil Wickremesinghe along with the interim budget after becoming the President.
The debate on the 2nd reading of the budget is scheduled to be held from November 14 to 21.
The second reading of the budget is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, November 21 at 6:00 pm.
Accordingly, the debate on the third reading of the budget will be held from November 22 to December 13.
The related polling will be held on December 13.
With the aim of getting the next tranche of the International Monetary Fund, a budget that can meet its conditions is being presented this time as well.
The Minister of State for Finance had earlier said that the government has focused on increasing the salaries of 14 lakh public sector employees and 6 lakh pensioners who are demanding a salary increase in this year’s budget.
