Due to the heavy rains falling in the Mahaweli upper water catchment area, the water levels in the reservoirs in the central mountains near the power plants have risen significantly.

Victoria Reservoir, which is the main reservoir that generates electricity in the hills, has increased its water capacity to 78.5% of the total water capacity. Its maximum water capacity is 722 million cubic meters.

The Kothmale reservoir has increased to 76.6% of the total water capacity and the active water capacity of the Randenigala reservoir is 40.3%.

The data report released by Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority states that the water capacity of Rantambe Reservoir has increased to 40.3%.

Due to the rain falling in the upper catchment area, the sluice gates of the Polgolla water diversion are constantly being opened, so the people using the lower Mahaweli river are requested to be careful.
