The World Rugby Council has lifted the ban on Sri Lankan rugby.

This has been communicated by the Asian Rugby Chairman to the Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe.

The minister says that the move will be officially announced.

A meeting between the President of the Asian Rugby Federation Mr. Qais Al Dalai and the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Mr. Roshan Ranasinghe was held in Dubai yesterday morning.

Mr. Qais Al Dalai has confirmed that the World Rugby Council has lifted the ban on Sri Lankan rugby at a meeting held in Paris a few days ago.

Furthermore, it has been further discussed about removing the voting rights of associations that do not contribute significantly to the development of rugby, and introducing necessary amendments to the constitution for the future of Sri Lankan rugby.

Sports Minister Mr. Roshan Ranasinghe thanked the officials of the World and Asian Rugby Federations for creating a strong governance structure and giving the opportunity to the Sri Lanka Rugby team to participate in international competitions in the future.

Sri Lanka’s International Rugby Coordinator Mr. Azarath Dean has also participated in this discussion.
