The Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva told Newswave that tenders will be called from today (01) for the restructuring of SriLankan Airlines.
Accordingly, investors have been given a period of 45 days to submit bids for the purchase of Sri Lankan shares, he said.
The restructuring process of SriLankan Airlines was presented 8 months ago and today it has progressed to the process of calling for tenders.
Regarding the government’s efforts to find a promoter, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva also said:
The demand to restructure Sri Lankan was made 8 months ago. After presenting it to the Cabinet, it was handed over to the Treasury to look into it and submit a report.
Accordingly, the treasury handed over to the international organization called IFC of the World Bank to come forward as a facilitator for this restructuring process. For this, a tender board has been appointed under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister’s Secretary.
A technical committee headed by Mr. Ruwan Chandra, the secretary of my ministry, has been appointed to support this tender board. Today, the public media of Sri Lanka as well as the websites of the countries of the world have announced this call for tenders, and individuals or organizations who want to buy shares to restructure Sri Lankan in a very transparent manner have been asked to submit bids.
A period of 45 days has been given for this purpose and we are considering selecting a good investor who will secure the rights of the Sri Lankan employees by evaluating the bidders, said the Minister.
