The Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court has imposed a foreign travel ban on two high-ranking government officials and a pharmaceutical company owner who approved the importation of substandard Medicine.
The owner of the company, who has been accused of importing 22,500 vials of substandard immunoglobulin, has also been banned from traveling abroad by the court.
Accordingly, a relevant foreign travel ban has been imposed on the National Drug Regulatory Authority Director General / Chief Executive Officer Dr. Vijith Gunasekara, Health Ministry Supply Director Dr. Kapila Wickramanayake, and the owner of the related pharmaceutical company, Aruna Deepthi.
The Magistrate has imposed a foreign travel ban in response to a request made by the Criminal Investigation Department saying that the people involved in this incident are ready to leave the country.
The Magistrate has also ordered to inform the immigration controller that the persons concerned have been banned from leaving the country.
The Magistrate has further ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to immediately arrest the other suspects involved in this incident and bring them to court.
