Government employees across the country are protesting in front of their workplaces today at lunch time, demanding a 20,000 rupees allowance or salary increase in the upcoming budget.
State and Provincial Public Service Trade Unions jointly organized the protest and members of many professions including Development Officer, Management Services, Village Officer, Samurdhi, Provincial Government Services have participated in it.
The trade unions say that if their demands are not resolved in this year’s budget, they will take strict strike action in the future.
The trade union representatives point out that the professional actions are taken due to the failure of the authorities to continuously provide solutions to the existing problems and efforts to avoid those problems.
It was reported that around 300 government institutions representing various trade unions will join the protest in support of this move.
