The gazette notice has been issued to remove two Sri Lankans from the list of designated persons for terrorist activities.

This step has been taken by a gazette notification issued yesterday (23) by General Kamal Gunaratne (Retired), Secretary of the Ministry of Defence.

Accordingly, Niklapilla Antony Emil Lakshmi Kanthan alias ‘Ramesh’ and Murugesu Sri Shanmugaraja have been removed from the relevant list.

Ramesh was blacklisted in February 2014 for activities related to terrorism after the Interpol issued a red notice against him in 2010.

Murugesu Sri Shanmugaraja was also included in the list since 2014.

They were blacklisted under the UN’s list of designated persons for aiding and abetting terrorist activities.

The list of persons, groups and entities designated under United Nations mandates is revised from time to time.
