The government has taken steps to compile a code of conduct for parliamentarians and to establish an independent body to investigate it.

The approval of the Council of Ministers has been received to obtain the opinions of the Speaker of the Parliament and all the party leaders on the preliminary draft prepared for that purpose, and after that to advise a draftsman to prepare a draft bill.

Ensuring the accountability, credibility, transparency and professionalism of parliamentarians are essential factors in enhancing public confidence in the effectiveness, transparency and fairness of the legislature.

Therefore, Members of Parliament must at all times exercise their powers, privileges, functions and duties with fidelity and integrity.

Many countries in the world have a mechanism to enforce and monitor a code of conduct for members of parliament.

Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the proposal jointly presented by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reform.
