The International Cricket Council (ICC) gave its approval today (14) to call up Chamika Karunaratne to the squad to replace the injured Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka.

Accordingly, the cricket commentators point out that Dasun Shanaka will lose all the matches in the preliminary round of the World Cup. In the last match against Pakistan, captain Dasun Shanaka restricted his bowling to 5 overs and it was later revealed that the reason was due to a muscle injury in his right thigh area.

According to the information provided to the ICC, another three weeks will be required for the situation to be resolved. In view of this situation, Dasun Shanaka’s captaincy will be lost for the World Cup and Kusal Mendis or another senior player will get the opportunity instead.

Sri Lanka’s next match is tomorrow (16) against Australia in Lucknow and there are indications that Chamika Karunaratne will join it.
