In response to the ongoing conflict in Israel, special telephone numbers have been introduced to provide information about Sri Lankan workers in the affected area. The Foreign Employment Bureau has set up two dedicated lines for this purpose: information can be obtained via WhatsApp at +94716640560 or by calling the hotline number 1989 of the Foreign Employment Bureau.
Approximately 8,000 Sri Lankan nationals are currently employed in Israel, with the majority, around 90%, working in the healthcare sector, particularly in nursing services.
To ensure the safety and well-being of these workers, the Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment, Mr. Manusha Nanayakkara, has personally contacted the Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel. Additionally, the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau has been instructed to take all necessary measures to safeguard the Sri Lankan workforce in the affected region.
