Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, speaking in Kandy today, acknowledged the need for new leadership within the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. He stressed that the existing leadership should not be permanent and that the people expect fresh leadership in the future.
During his visit to Kandy, Rajapaksa paid homage to the sacred tooth relic at Sri Dalada Palace and sought blessings. He was received there by Diyawadana Nilame Mr. Pradeep Nilanga Dela. After the visit, he held a press conference where he expressed his gratitude to the people for their support. He emphasized the importance of patience and fulfilling the demands of the public.
Responding to questions about the possibility of election postponements, Rajapaksa stated that he had not received official reports about any delays. However, he expressed his disapproval if such a decision were made, highlighting the importance of conducting elections in a timely manner.
