Free School Lunch for All Students by 2030

In a significant move towards enhancing educational accessibility and addressing students’ nutritional needs, Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha has announced plans to provide free school lunch for all students by the year 2030. The initiative aims to ensure that no student goes without a nutritious meal during school hours.

Dr. Premajayantha emphasized the importance of uninterrupted education, even amidst challenges posed by various factors such as war conflicts, climate change, and epidemics. He highlighted the ongoing discussions with relevant parties, including the French government, to secure provisions for this ambitious initiative.

Additionally, the minister revealed plans to systematically increase allocations for school uniforms and lunches in the coming years. This commitment reflects the government’s dedication to supporting students’ overall well-being and fostering a conducive learning environment.

The announcement was made during the minister’s participation as the chief guest at an agricultural exhibition held at Mullathivu Mallavi Middle School. The initiative represents a significant step towards creating an inclusive educational system that prioritizes the holistic development of every student.
