The National Building Inspection Organization has initiated a thorough technical evaluation of the Bambalapitiya and Wellawatta flyovers accessing the railway stations on Marine Drive. These structures have been identified as being in a dangerous condition, prompting immediate attention.
Ms. Dhammika Kahahengoda, Director of the Structural Inspection and Project Management Department, confirmed that a specialized team has been dispatched to assess the situation. The organization has informed both the Colombo Municipal Council and the Sri Lanka Railway Department about the precarious condition of these overhead bridges.
“Our team will conduct comprehensive inspections to determine the extent of risk and the necessary steps to be taken. It’s imperative to carry out the required testing and assessments collaboratively. We aim to provide a technical report outlining the appropriate course of action after our research,” she stated.
This proactive approach emphasizes the importance of ensuring the safety and stability of these vital transportation structures in Colombo. The collaborative efforts of relevant authorities and experts are crucial in addressing these concerns effectively.
