Despite recent rainfall in various parts of the island, many reservoirs managed by the Irrigation Department remain at critically low water levels. Most of these reservoirs are situated in arid regions that have not received substantial rainfall yet.
According to Engineer Sudarshani Vidanapathirana, the reservoirs are currently at only 28% of their total water capacity. To adequately fill these reservoirs and ensure water security for the region, an additional 72% of water capacity is required. The situation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by these regions in managing their water resources effectively.
