A tragic incident occurred in Batticaloa when six young individuals were filming a TikTok video on a boat in Nawal Adi Lagoon. The boat, unable to withstand their weight, capsized, resulting in all six individuals falling into the lagoon.
Some of the youths who knew how to swim managed to reach the shore safely, while others clung to the overturned boat until help arrived. Tragically, two individuals, K Thirujan (18) from Anandapuram, Mamangama, Batticaloa, and T Kirushan (19) from Shilamune, Bavittara Road, Batticaloa, drowned and lost their lives in the incident.
The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of safety precautions when engaging in recreational activities, particularly near bodies of water.
