Sri Lanka and India have taken steps to resume talks on the stalled Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA).

Accordingly, the main negotiators of Sri Lanka and India have held a discussion on this through the online system on last September 19.

It marks the continuation of negotiations after 11 previous rounds of negotiations regarding this agreement, the Presidential Media Division said.

11 rounds of negotiations on the India-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement have been held between 2016 and 2019 with the aim of expanding and strengthening it.

It has been almost ten years since negotiations on the ETCA Treaty began.

When this agreement came to the fore, it led to a lot of discussion in the society.

From the beginning, trade unions and various groups in this country strongly opposed it, saying that India would get more benefits from this agreement.
