A Norwegian national who was ready to leave the country after deceiving a Sri Lankan businessman by claiming that he would be given shares in an English company, has been arrested by immigration officials at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport.
According to a complaint received by the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau against this 42-year-old Norwegian national named Andreas Bois Wick, a flight ban has been imposed on him by the court. Not knowing that, he was arrested yesterday when he arrived at the airport to leave the country.
The Norwegian was handed over to the Katunayake Airport police station by immigration officials. He was later handed over to the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau by Katunayake Airport Police officers.
The police say that after he was produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court, he was released on bail after paying Rs. 500,000 of the defrauded money.
