A prison sergeant employed at the Colombo Remand Prison was apprehended by officers from the Colombo Crime Division on charges of providing refuge to three underworld criminals linked to two separate murder cases. The arrest took place yesterday.
The implicated prison sergeant resides at Nawala Avenue, Nawala Road, Rajagiriya.
Investigations have unveiled that the three individuals sheltered by the prison officer in his three-story residence in Rajagiriya are connected to significant criminal activities. Among them is the motorcyclist involved in the fatal shooting of Dunumala Sarath in Galapitamada on July 14th of this year. Additionally, one of the criminals is suspected to be an accomplice of the shooter responsible for the murder of Sanjeeva in Vanathamulla, Borella, which occurred on May 20th of the same year.
Details regarding the prison sergeant’s involvement came to light during the interrogation of a suspect previously arrested and held under detention orders for the shooting death of Dunamala Sarath.
