Even though heavy rains have fallen in many areas across the island, there has not been enough rain for the main reservoirs in the central highlands with power plants.
Although there are risks of flooding in some areas, the water capacity of the Kotmale, Victoria and Randenigala reservoirs located in the central hills along the Mahaweli River is still at a low level.
According to the data report released by the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka today (11), the active water capacity of the Randenigala Reservoir, which has a maximum water capacity of 801 million cubic meters, is 3.8% of the total water capacity.
