The Northern Railway will be temporarily closed from next January.
This step is taken as the renovation work of the Northern Railway is planned to be carried out for a period of 6 months.
Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that after the renovation, the train will run at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour from Colombo to Kankasanthurai.
The renovation works of the railway line from Colombo to Panadura are also planned to start soon.
Apart from this, there are plans to remove the speed limit on Kelaniweli railway line to increase the speed of train running.
