The officers of the Criminal Investigation Department today arrested three police officers who are under suspension for beating to death a woman named Raj Kumari, who was arrested by the Welikada Police on suspicion of a theft that happened at the house of Mrs. Sudharma Nethikumara.
Two sergeants and a constable have been arrested.
On the last 28th, the officers of the Criminal Investigation Department arrested a sub-inspector in connection with this murder. He was produced before the Colombo Additional Magistrate on the 29th and was remanded until the 11th.
It is said that the theft occurred in Mrs. Sudharma Neththikumara’s house between March 26th and May 03rd. According to a verbal complaint made by Mrs. Sudarma Neththikumara to the police on the 11th, the police officers arrested the woman. She died that evening in a police attack. Her body was taken to the Colombo National Hospital by the police and handed over in the same way as hospitalizing a woman who had fallen on the road.
