According to the Ministry of Health, there are no vaccines in the country that provide immunity for meningitis and yellow fever.

Its Deputy Director General Dr. G. Wijesuriya, mentioned that people who leave for work in the African region are given immunization shots against yellow fever.

He said that the situation has escalated due to the fact that the contracted supplier did not provide the vaccines properly.

Attempts have been made to get the vaccines from the World Health Organization, but it has not been successful.

Accordingly, he says that it has been planned to import the vaccine immediately through the relevant supplier.

He stated that people travelling in groups in the Middle East region are given immunization vaccines for meningitis and these vaccines are not currently available in the country’s stores.

Dr. G. Wijesuriya said that the related vaccines that have been ordered will be delivered to the island within the next week.
