The epidemiology department says not to cause unnecessary fear to the people regarding the meningococcal-meninggeritis disease that caused the sudden illness and death of two inmates in the Galle prison.
Several such patients are reported every year, said its director specialist Dr. Samitha Ginige.
A group of inmates of the Galle prison suddenly fell ill and it was revealed that they were infected with meningococcal-meninggeritis.
He also said: “Several patients are reported under this condition every year. This is not an undiagnosed condition. This can spread through associates. This has no effect on the community. Only the two patients who were initially identified have been reported. A disease like this can spread through close associates.”
