62 Sri Lankans who were staying in Kuwait have been deported to this country.

Reports in the country say that according to the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait, they have stayed in the country without proper documents and temporary passports.

59 of the deportees were domestic workers.

According to the report, among those repatriated are Sri Lankan workers who left contracted domestic service jobs.

They were engaged in various jobs in the Emirates, earning a monthly salary of KD250.

It was revealed that they were living in temporary accommodation.

The report states that in a joint effort involving the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait, the Ministry of Interior, the Criminal Investigation Department, the judiciary and other relevant authorities, a successful program has been implemented to issue temporary passports for their safe return.

According to the Al Qabas report, more than 2,000 registered Sri Lankan domestic workers have expressed interest in being repatriated to Sri Lanka.
