The opening match of the Lanka Premier League-2023 (LPL) cricket tournament will start today (30) night in Colombo.
It is a special thing that this year’s Sri Lankan Premier League champion’s trophy has been prepared by mixing metals obtained from the recycling and melting of discarded aluminium cans.
Through the “Beautiful Beach” program of the Melting Point Project, which has been implemented for about 3 years across the country, these wonderful designs have been made by collecting aluminium cans that have been informally disposed of on the beach and taking them by train to the Pirimathalawa factory where aluminium is turned into liquid.
This project has already succeeded in recycling such discarded metal items and making amazing designs, and it also claims a large market demand for these products at home and abroad.
However, 2532 aluminium cans that were dumped on the beach have been used to create the champions’ trophy of this year’s LPL tournament.
This will be the only trophy in the world to be gifted to the world of international cricket, crafted from recycled metal with unique Sri Lankan carvings crafted by the hands of amazing designers.
