A special clinic to provide free drugs to reduce the risk of HIV is held every second Sunday of each month at the STD and AIDS Control Unit at Serem Place, Colombo.
Dr. Janaki Vidana Pathirana, director of the National Program for the Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Diseases and AIDS, said that the privacy of the people taking the drugs will be protected to the maximum and their identity will not be revealed.
The expert doctor also said that the interest of sex workers and transgenders in taking these drugs is high and that HIV transmission can be prevented by 99% by taking the drug called PREP before having unprotected sex.
