Colombo Crime Division officers arrested a man yesterday evening who was preparing to commit suicide with his two daughters using two bottles of petrol and a lighter in his hand at the junction in front of the Kolonnawa petroleum storage complex.
The officers of the crime division, who were acting immediately after receiving information about the person who was trying to kill himself along with the two children who were wearing school uniform, were staying at a place very close to the Colombo crime division, and took steps to arrest him.
He kept her two daughters, aged 10 and 07, on her lap, saying that he had been wronged and asked for relief. He has threatened the police officers who came there by saying that he will kill himself if they do not give relief and even stopped the traffic on the road.
The officers of the Colombo Crime Division, who acted strategically, arrested this person after apprehending them. The Police Media Spokesperson’s Office announced that it was related to attempted suicide and brutalizing children.
The two children who were with him have also been taken into police custody. The police mentioned that this person is a 36-year-old resident of Meethotamulla.
The police say that there are warrants issued for 07 pending cases against this person. According to the warrants, when a group of police officers went to the house to arrest him, he ran away from the house and tried to take his own life with the two children.
The police say that 02 housebreaking, possession of a bomb and 06 drug cases are pending against this person in court.
This person has been remanded until the 18th after being produced before the Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court yesterday evening.
