Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena says that the President will appoint new members for the Election Commission in the coming days.
The report on the 05 new members selected for the Election Commission is to be forwarded to President Ranil Wickramasinghe for approval in the next few days.
After receiving the approval of the President, their tenure is effective for a period of 05 years.
The recently convened Constituent Assembly elected new members for the Election Commission.
Accordingly, approval has been given to appoint Mr. RMAL Ratnayake, a former Election Commissioner General, for the position of its chairman.
Apart from that, the names of former Election Commissioner General MAPC Perera, former law drafter President’s Advocate Deepani Kumarajeeva, lawyer Amir Faiz and Dr. Ramesh Ramasamy of Peradeniya University of Political Science have been proposed as other members of the commission.
