The government has taken steps to repeal the Bread Ordinance, which contained rules regarding the sale of bread.
The Bread Ordinance No. 13 of 1864 was enacted to regulate the sale of bread and to prevent the mixing of spoiled flour with bread offered for sale.
It has been recognized that there is no further need to implement the ordinance.
The government says that in implementing the provisions of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act No. 9 of 2003, there are times when problems arise with certain provisions of that ordinance.
Accordingly, the Council of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Safety to instruct a draftsman to prepare draft constitutions to repeal the said ordinance.
