The price of fertilizer will be reduced when the ship arrives on the 10th

Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera says that the price of urea fertilizer sold to farmers by the two government-owned fertilizer companies has been reduced to Rs.9000 per 50 kg sack effective from June 15.

This decision was taken during a discussion on reducing the price of urea fertilizer this morning (31).

A fertilizer ship of 31,500 metric tons of urea fertilizer is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka on June 10-12.

Accordingly, the minister said that this step was taken to give the farmers the advantage of the increase in the value of the rupee against the dollar and the decrease in the price of urea fertilizer in the world market.

A bundle of urea fertilizer sold by the private sector for Rs. 42,000 by the last yala season has now been reduced by the private sector to Rs. 11,000.

The reason for this was that the government took steps to provide a bundle of urea fertilizer to the farmers at a minimum price of Rs.10,000.

Meanwhile, in the last Maha season, the price of a bundle of Bundi fertilizer sold at Rs. 19,500 was reduced by Rs.4500 to Rs. 15,000.

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera emphasized that the government is providing all these concessions with the objective of reducing the production costs of the farmers.
