A passenger bus which was running from Kandy towards Mahiyangana took a bend at Ududumbara and the driver was thrown out of the bus.
The accident happened yesterday evening.
There were about 25 passengers in the bus at that time. While the bus was running downhill on a hilly road without the driver, an army soldier in the bus jumped into the driver’s seat and stopped the bus by applying the brakes. If not, the bus would have overturned on a 100 feet cliff and the lives of the passengers would have been at risk.
This passenger bus is a private one. The police say that the accident took place while driving a short distance past the Ududumbara police station.
It has been found during the investigation that the door with the driver’s seat of the bus opened and the driver was thrown from the bus and the accident took place when the bus was traveling at high speed and was about to take a bend.
Police say that the driver has been hospitalized and his back has been damaged.
