Electricity and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said in Parliament today (24) about the reduced prices of electricity bills from July 1st.
Accordingly, it has been proposed to reduce the fixed fee from Rs 400 to Rs 250. There the electricity tariff will be reduced by at least 23% for domestic consumers. The minister also said that there are 1,744,000 families who will get the relief.
For the 0-30 unit category, the existing unit price will be reduced by Rs.5. The new amendment has proposed to make the new price of a unit of that category to Rs.25.
10,692 religious places using electricity in the 31-60 unit category will witness a 7% reduction in electricity bills.
For 15,646 religious places that use 0-30 units, the electricity bill in July will be reduced by 23%.
The minister also said that it has been proposed to reduce the electricity bill between 29%-40% for the hotel category.
