The Election Commission has started a training program for the election officials so that they can give basic instructions in sign language to the hearing impaired voters at the polling station.
Mr. Nimal Punchihewa, Chairman of the Election Commission, said that a training program was recently implemented for officers capable of giving basic instructions to voters in sign language.
Mr. Punchiheva also said that there are about 600,000 hearing-impaired voters and this will enable them to provide basic instructions in sign language during the upcoming elections.
