Although a proposal to abolish the salaries of parliamentarians is mentioned in the budget report for the year 2021, many such popular proposals have not been implemented so far, says the Minister of State for Finance Ranjith Siambalapitiya.
The Minister of State mentioned that the Budget Office is implementing a new program to prevent such proposals from vanishing.
The minister also mentioned that many of the privileges for public representatives have been curtailed during the tenure of the current finance minister.
Also, commenting on the accusations that the subsidies given to the people who deserve subsidies will be abolished in about three years, the minister said that the government’s aim is not to abolish subsidies in three years but to strengthen the people who expect those subsidies.
