The Inspector General of Police has initiated a special investigation regarding the death of a maid who was arrested in connection with a theft at the house of Mrs. Sudarma Nethikumara, who is a tele drama producer as well as a businessman.
The Police Headquarters said that the investigation is being conducted by the Police Special Investigation Unit.
A 42-year-old woman named R Raj Kumari, a resident of Badulla Nawala Watta Demodara, has died in police custody.
It is said that the maid was arrested on the same day, according to a complaint made by Mrs. Sudarma Netthikumara, which is said to have been made on the 11th of May. At that time, the maid was working in a house on Borella Kota Road.
The police say that while the police were interrogating the maid, she fell ill and died after being admitted to the hospital.
