With the landing of the 30th coal cargo at Norochcholai, the total coal requirement of the CEB for this season is completed, according to Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera, the Minister of Power and Energy.
It says there will be no blackouts or power cuts as previously speculated by the electricity board’s trade unions and media reports, due to the coal shortage.
Unit 3 of Norochcholai will be closed for a period of 100 days from 13th June for scheduled major repair and maintenance work.
Along with other thermal power plants, electricity generation is managed without power cuts.
