According to the Department of Meteorology, there is a possibility of developing a turbulent nature in the southeast Bay of Bengal sea area from tomorrow (06).

Meteorologists request the fishing and marine community to pay attention to the upcoming announcements in this regard.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Eastern, Central and Uva provinces and in Hambantota district during the afternoon or night.

Showers will occur in Western and Northwestern provinces and in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in Western and North-western provinces and fairly heavy showers about 50 mm are likely at some places elsewhere.

Strong winds about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over western and Southern coastal areas.

People are advised to take necessary measures to minimize the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thunderstorms.

Today too, there will be scattered rain or thundershowers in the sea areas around the island.

Winds will be south-westerly over sea area around the island and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph. Wind speed may increase up to (40-50) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Beruwala to Hambanthota via Galle and Matara.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Beruwala to Hambanthota via Galle and Matara will be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate.

Thunderstorms can cause temporary strong winds in those sea areas and then those sea areas can be temporarily very rough.
