The delay of the Department of Animal Production and Health to issue certificates for the release of imported eggs to the market has created many problems, says the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation.

Its chairman Mr. Asiri Walisundara said that due to this, it has not been possible to release the eggs to the market as planned.

The Chairman of Sri Lanka State Trading Corporation also said. “So far, we are in a difficult situation in terms of releasing eggs to the market. Because we have delivered the samples from the egg stock that arrived in Sri Lanka on the 19th. We expected to receive the sample report on Monday. But when we inquired from the Department of Animal Production, they told us that they would be able to give us those reports on Friday.

Thus, we have felt that they will take a maximum of 10 days for this purpose. With this, we have been in a lot of trouble in terms of releasing eggs to the market.”

Mr. Asiri Walisundara said that orders have been given for the import of nearly 5 million more eggs in the future.
