A 15-year-old student studying in the 10th grade of a school in Ampara Senagama area shot himself dead after returning home after school yesterday.

A student resident of Ampara Mayadunna has committed suicide.

The Police Media Spokesman’s Office announced this morning that the student had come home after school and had gone to a shed behind the house and killed himself by shooting himself.

The shooting happened yesterday.

The Police Media Spokesperson’s Office states that the firearm the student shot was unlicensed. Investigations have revealed that the weapon was in the house.

This student’s father is a driver by profession. Mother is not employed. The police say that this student has a sister and a younger brother.

The police say that apart from the student’s parents, the father’s parents are also live in this house.

This student’s behavior has recently come under the observation of the principal. A senior police officer said that the principal had taken steps to inform even the parents about the fact that the child was becoming violent and had a tendency to have conflicts with other children.

The officer further stated that if proper attention had been paid and the reasons for the child’s change had been investigated, such an incident would not have happened.

The Bandaraduwa Police, which is investigating the suicide, says that an investigation is being conducted regarding the firearm that the student shot himself.
