Police Special Task Force media section announced today that a person was arrested with over Rs. 50 million worth of amber taken from whales, which is considered to be floating gold.
The Special Task Force mentions that a 31-year-old resident of the Meegoda area who was in possession of 14 kg and 300 grams of amber was arrested in a raid conducted at Niyadagala, Pannipitiya in the Homagama police area.
This substance called amber is the vomit of whales. They are very expensive and this is used to make the most expensive perfumes.
The raid was carried out by a team of officers, including Deputy Station Commander of Special Operations Section III, Inspector BSEH Mendis, according to the information received by the officers of the Special Task Force Special Operations Division III, as per the orders and instructions of the Special Task Force Commanding Officer Deputy Inspector General of Police Mr. Waruna Jayasundara, under the guidance of the Superintendent of Police (Intelligence/Special Operations) Mr. M. M. K. Wijesinghe, and under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Police (Intelligence/Special Operations/ Narcotics and Organized Crime) Mr. Sagara Kulasekara.
