Sri Lanka State Trading Corporation says that it has not been possible to release the stock of Indian eggs brought to Colombo port so far.

This problem has arisen due to the non-availability of required health certificates.

Last Saturday, a stock of one million eggs was brought to Sri Lanka to be sold at Rs. 35 each to bakeries and large-scale hotels during the festive season.

Although the animal products and health department took its samples last Sunday, the results have not yet been released, says the State Commercial Miscellaneous Legalized Corporation.

Under such circumstances, a situation has arisen where it is not possible to distribute the egg stock to bakeries and hotel owners before the New Year.
