A team of officers of the Maradana Police has arrested a police constable of the Embassy Security Division who stole a mobile phone from a Sergeant of the Criminal Investigation Department staying at the Dasamahal Army House in Maradana and sold it.
The theft took place on February 23. The Sergeant of the Criminal Investigation Department has also lodged a complaint with the Maradana Police about this.
When getting a report through the IMEI number related to this phone, it has been revealed that the phone is currently being used by a hotel employee in Colombo using another SIM card. Accordingly, during the questioning of the employee by the police, it was revealed that he had rented this phone from a telephone sales point in Bambalapitiya. Accordingly, when the police interrogated the shop owner, it was revealed that an officer working in the embassy’s security division had taken the phone and sold it to her.
The said officer who works in the Embassy Security Division is also a resident of the Dasamahal barracks in the Maradana police area. During his arrest and interrogation yesterday, it was revealed that he committed the theft in the barracks. After being presented to the court, he has been remanded until the next 04th.
