Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera, the Minister of Electricity and Energy, has informed the Inspector General that there is a risk of the petroleum workers who obstructed the distribution of petroleum and the related external persons forcibly entering the fuel distribution safe zones and damaging the fuel distribution process in the future.

The Minister has informed the Inspector General of Police through a letter that this is evident from the various statements made by them and the threatening statements made by the trade unions of other institutions affiliated to them even after the past incidents.

Therefore, the Minister requested that a proper investigation be conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department regarding this disruptive group.

The letter requested that appropriate legal measures be taken against the people who entered this safe service zone without permission and that the necessary security be provided to that zone and other fuel storage and distribution zones to prevent such a nuclear security situation from reoccurring in the future.

Through his letter, the minister also requests the IGP to intervene to obtain the necessary court orders to prevent the forced entry of those people and those not related to the service in these zones.
