The All Ceylon Three-wheeler Entrepreneurs’ Union states that Three-wheeler fares cannot be reduced at all based on the amount of fuel price reduction.
Mr. Meryl Dissanayake, President of the All Ceylon Three-wheeler Entrepreneurs’ Union, said that the demand of some people to lower the Three-wheeler fare by Rs. 10 per kilometer because the price of a liter of petrol has been reduced by Rs. 60 is not acceptable.
Mr. Dissanayake also said that a three-wheeler could run about 20 kilometers on a liter of petrol, and by reducing the cost of fuel by Rs. 60, it’s only possible to reduce Three-wheeler fares by Rs. 3 per kilometer.
Mr. Dissanayake also said that the industry has collapsed due to the high price of tires, maintenance costs and consumer goods, and people have limited the use of three-wheelers.
According to the association, the three-wheeler owner will get a relief of Rs. 3 per kilometer due to the decrease in petrol price, but it is a small amount compared to other expenses.
Therefore, Mr. Dissanayake said that the three-wheeler fares cannot be reduced under any circumstance.
