Colombo Crime Division officers have arrested a person who led the racket by creating a website mentioning the information of the sub-branch of the Colombo Indian Visa Institute located at William Gopallawa Mawatha, Kandy, and thereby exposing a fake and fraudulent visa racket that had been going on for some time.
Devakumara Jino Edision (29), a resident of Panwila Puran Kumbara area, has been arrested as follows.
This person was arrested by the officers of the Colombo Crime Division near a banquet hall located in the Wattegama Pitiya Gedera area.
Investigations have revealed that this scam has been carried out by receiving money from people and tricking them into issuing visas by pretending to be the official website of the Indian Visa Institute.
The police have also seized a laptop computer and a mobile phone used to commit this fraud.
The suspect has been remanded until April 07 after being presented to the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday (29).
