The date of local government elections has been postponed indefinitely.
The Election Commission had discussed with the party secretaries of the political parties for an extended period of time this morning and got ideas and proposals, and accordingly the commission has decided to hold the polling on a future day.
Election Commissioner General Mr. Saman Sri Ratnayake announced that after considering the opinions and suggestions of the political party secretaries and studying the laws, a decision will be reached regarding the election date in the near future.
