The State Commercial Miscellaneous Statutory Corporation says that the first batch of eggs imported to Sri Lanka from India reached the island today (23).

Its director Mr. T. A. D. Ranjith mentioned that 2 million eggs have been imported as the first stock of eggs.

The government had decided to import eggs from India in order to control the price of eggs in this country.

The eggs brought to the island are scheduled to be released after the investigations conducted by the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry of Trade mentioned that these imported eggs are planned to be given to the products related to the bakery industry at a subsidized price.
