A woman was admitted to the Polonnaruwa hospital after being hit by a shot fired to drive away a wild elephant that had invaded the village.
A woman named T. M. Rupamalini (52), a resident of Damminna Kandegama was shot and hospitalized.
Aralagangwila Police stated that they conducted an investigation into the shooting and arrested a resident of the same area with a locally made stun gun that was used in the shooting.
R.M. Gunaratne (58) is a farmer. Yesterday (26) an elephant entered the village and was destroying the crops, the villagers lit firecrackers to drive the elephant away. Investigations have revealed that the woman was shot when she opened the door of her house to hear the sound.
